HD 305 - Cognitive Development: How Children Learn3 Credit(s)Students will actively investigate the implications of cognitive developmental theory for early childhood Education and the elementary classroom. Objectives of the class include: 1/ analysis of basic constructivist theories, primarily those of Piaget and Vygotsky; 2/ exploration of the cultural and developmental perspectives of cognitive theory; and 3/ application of theory to the diverse Educational needs of children. Emphasis will be placed on the implications of constructivist theory in terms of the role of the teacher, the classroom environment and the curriculum. |
