MFT 650 - Cross-Cultural Mores and Values3 credits This course is designed to consider and present a conceptual framework for review and incorporation of sociocultural factors into clinical and communication theories and practices. Specific cultural content (with emphasis on family history, structures, dynamics, values, mores, adaptive strengths, and coping styles) and socio-political constraints on human development (with emphasis on racism and normative value psychology) will be examined. The importance of racial/ethnic identity is highlighted as the core of ones self-identity. The objective of the course is to develop knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural differences.
